Game of the Week: UW-Superior at Northwestern - Women's Basketball

This week's Game of the Week will take place on Saturday, January 16th at 5 p.m. as the University of Wisconsin-Superior travels to the University of Northwestern in women's basketball action.
NEWS AND NOTES
Bethany Lutheran College
Women’s basketball player, Minnie Frederick-Childress was recognized by HERO Sports as one of "The Top Thieves of D3 Women's Basketball" in the entire nation. She is currently averaging 4.40 steals per game which is sixth best in the entire nation.
Women’s basketball earned a weekend sweep over Minnesota Morris and Crown College to improve to a record of 8-8 overall and 5-3 in the UMAC. With the two victories, Bethany currently stands alone in fourth place. Briana Brandts recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, and eighth on the season by scoring a combined 24 points and collecting 31 rebounds on the weekend. Minnie Frederick-Childress helped the Vikings at the guard position, recording 39 points, 13 rebounds, and eight steals in the two victories.
Men’s basketball defeated Crown College on Saturday after falling to Minnesota Morris on Friday night. Neil Eichten had a big weekend for Bethany, scoring 39 points while teammate Zach Brandts added 28 points in two games. After Saturday’s win, 6-10 overall and 4-4 in UMAC is where the men’s basketball team stands heading into the second half of the season.
Both teams travel to St. Scholastica and UW-Superior this coming weekend in UMAC basketball.
Indoor Track and Field kicked off their season with a meet at St. Mary’s Early Birdinal. Several Bethany student-athletes set personal best or broke school records in the opening meet of the season.
College of St. Scholastica
In Men's Basketball's victory over Northwestern on Friday night, the Saints scored over 50 points in the second half. It was the fifth time this season CSS has scored at least 50 points in a half.
Martin Luther College
MLC senior Todd Brassow set an men's basketball program record with 45 points in Friday's game against Crown College. Brassow scored 43 of his 45 points in regulation of that double overtime thriller on the way to breaking the previous mark of 41 points, scored by Andrew Fix in 1996.
First-year men's basketball player T.J. Babinec tied the MLC single-game record with eight three-point field goals in Saturday's loss to Minnesota Morris. Babinec tied the mark set by Mark Jacobson (1999) and Ben Kuerth (2001).
The women's basketball team swept its weekend schedule, earning wins over Crown and Minnesota Morris. Saturday's 56-50 win over UMM snapped a six-game losing streak against the Cougars, dating back to February 25, 2012.
University of Minnesota Morris
MBB:The Cougars scored over 100 points for the third time this season, beating Martin Luther 100-76. CD Douglas had his first career double-double on Friday night. He almost had a triple-double on Saturday with 31 points, nine assists, nine rebounds. Tyler Ukkelberg had his first career double-double on Friday with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
WBB: Kendra Raths had her second career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Martin Luther.
University of Northwestern
UNW head men’s basketball coach Tim Grosz picked up his 300th career win at Northwestern Saturday, as the Eagles topped visiting UW-Superior, 87-78. Kyle Ooms went over 500 career rebounds in Saturday’s win, as the senior added 14 rebounds to a 29-point performance. UNW dropped Friday’s contest with St. Scholastica.
The women’s basketball team defeated St. Scholastica 74-49 on Friday night behind Jessica Cole’s 18 points. The Eagles battled UW-Superior for 40 minutes Saturday, but fell to the Yellowjackets, 60-50, in a defensive battle inside the Ericksen Center.
