DULUTH, Minn- Day 1 of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Softball Tournament is complete with one team in the four-squad bracket eliminated and three teams advancing to Day 2.
The College of St. Scholastica, University of Northwestern and the University of Minnesota Morris will move on to Saturday’s action with the Cougars being the only team remaining undefeated.
Minnesota Morris defeated the University of Northwestern in the first game of the day 1-0 before knocking off the tournament’s No. 1 seed, St. Scholastica, in Friday’s final game 4-1.
Crown College was eliminated from play losing their opening game 0-8 to the College of St. Scholastica and then falling 4-5 to Northwestern in Friday’s third game.
Saturday’s action begins at 10 a.m. as St. Scholastica and Northwestern face off with the loser going home and the winner going on to face Minnesota Morris at 12 p.m.in possibly the first of two championship games. If necessary, Minnesota Morris will face the same team immediately following at approximately 2 p.m.

ST. PAUL – Kenwood Field on the campus of the College of St. Scholsatica in Duluth, Minn. is set to host the 2015 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Postseason Softball Tournament. The four-team double-elimination conference tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday May 1 and 2 with the tournament champion earning the league’s automatic berth to the 2015 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
In addition to hosting the 2015 Tournament, the College of St. Scholastica enters as the top seed after compiling a perfect 21-0 league record and capturing their seventh straight UMAC regular season title. The Saints enter the tournament as the favorite after leading the league in batting average, hits, runs, RBIs, on base percentage, slugging percentage and home runs and will look to capture their second straight UMAC postseason crown. Saints pitcher Chrisi Mizera has 15 wins on the season, a UMAC best. The Saints also boast Nikki Logergren who has averages a .430 batting average on the season knocking in a league best 34 runs.
The University of Minnesota Morris enters the UMAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season with a 15-6 conference record, winning their last three conference games. The Cougars own the second best batting average in the conference with a .321 team average behind Alex Anderson who has a .418 average and Molly Olson’s 26 RBIs.
The Cougars will face third-seeded University of Northwestern in the opening game of the tournament at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Eagles earned their berth in the postseason event by compiling a 14-7 UMAC record. The Eagles handed the Cougars a loss earlier this season but the Cougars own the series winning two of the three previous meetings this year. The Eagles are led by current UMAC Player of the Week Jennifer Ankrom who ranks second in the league in hits this season adding 23 RBIs.
Friday’s second game will feature the fourth seed, Crown College, against the No. 1 Saints at 12 p.m. The Storm earned their berth in the by winning their last five straight conference games to finish with a league record of 11-10. The UMAC tournament appearance is the first in NCAA Division III era program history for Crown. The Storm are riding a hot streak after finishing the regular season second in the league in hits and third in doubles, homeruns and RBIs.
The two-day tournament schedule features four games on the Friday with one of the four teams being eliminated by the end of the first day of competition. The Tournament Champion will emerge with the UMAC Postseason trophy and a ticket to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
