Seniors dominate UMAC Men's Basketball awards

ST. PAUL -- The senior class dominated the 2012-13 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference All-Conference awards claiming seven of 10 spots on the all-conference first and second teams and five of seven entries on the honorable mention list.
The five member First Team All-Conference list had representation from five different UMAC institutions. North Central University's Nathan Roeder headlined the selections and was named the league's Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring averaging 23.4 points per game. Roeder was joined on the first team by Derek Peterson of Bethany Lutheran College, Anthony Di Loreto of Crown College, Galen Holzhueter of Martin Luther College and Wade Chitwood of Northwestern College.
Northwestern College head coach Tim Grosz was voted the UMAC Coach of the Year by his colleagues after the Eagles posted a 12-2 conference record and won the regular season title. Northwestern led all schools with four all-conference selections. Bethany Lutheran followed with three All-UMAC awards.
North Central University's Luke Chafin was awarded with Freshman of the Year honors after a standout rookie season that included top 10 finishes in scoring and defensive rebounds.
Northwestern College won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represented sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team had one representative on the individual sportsmanship award list. The following participants best exemplified sportsmanship throughout the year:
