UMAC kicks off 2012-2013 Player of the Week Awards

FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB Sam Durley, Eureka College
Eureka's Sam Durley broke the NCAA single-game record with 736 passing yards on Saturday at Knox. Durley threw for five touchdowns without an interception and also broke the Red Devils' school record for career yards, attempts and touchdowns. He is the first Eureka player to ever throw for more than 6,000 yards.



FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DB Jeremy Hampton, Westminster College (Mo.)

Jeremy Hampton helped Westminster kick off its season with a shutout victory at Rockford, recording three interceptions and returning them for a total of 102 yards. Hampton also had one tackle on the day.






FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
K Travis Huber, Eureka College

Eureka's Travis Huber was a perfect 8 for 8 on extra points and made two field goals in Saturday's win over Knox. Huber's first field goal gave the senior 14 for his career and sole possession of the school's all-time record.






MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Derek Dionne, University of Minnesota Morris

Derek Dionne earned medalist honors twice last week, taking first place at the North Central Invitational with a 75 before winning the UMAC Preview meet on Saturday with a 74.






MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
M Joe Watt, College of St. Scholastica

Joe Watt scored the Saints' first goal of the 2012 campaign on a penalty kick to help St. Scholastica notch its first win of the season against Macalester.






MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
D Caleb Yurek, College of St. Scholastica

Caleb Yurek was named to the Advantage Emblem Cup All-Tournament Team last weekend after marshalling the St. Scholastica backline against two strong regional opponents in Wisconsin-Whitewater and Macalester.






WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
F Megan Wright, Crown College

Megan Wright scored four goals in approximately 45 minutes against Finlandia University last Friday, adding another goal versus Mount Mary on Saturday, helping the Storm start 2-0.






WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
GK Kelsey Reeves, College of St. Scholastica

Kelsey Reeves made quite a debut in between the pipes for St. Scholastica last weekend, helping the Saints go 1-0-1 in two matches against region foes Macalester and Concordia-Moorhead. Reeves logged 200 minutes between the two games with a 0.90 goals-against average.






MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Chalmer Combellick, University of Minnesota Morris

In his first collegiate race, Chalmer Combellick set the Minnesota Morris school record for a 5K race at the Valley City State meet, crossing the finish line in 16:08. Combellick's time placed second overall.






WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Chelsea Johnson, College of St. Scholastica

In a field of 162 runners at the Tom Barry Invitational in Green Bay, Wis., St. Scholastica's Chelsea Johnson took first place with a 5K time of 18:39. Johnson's performance helped the Saints take second place as a team in the meet.






VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
OH Anna Zyvoloski, College of St. Scholastica

In four matches last weekend, Anna Zyvoloski averaged 4.83 kills per set and a .378 attacking percentage to help the Saints start their 2012 season with a 4-0 record. Zyvoloski also contributed 3.83 digs per set on defense.






VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
L Lexi Bertsch, Northwestern College

In four matches last weekend, Northwestern's Lexi Bertsch averaged 4.93 digs per set in the back row, helping the Eagles start their season 3-1. Bertsch's passing rate throughout the two-day tournament was .976.






VOLLEYBALL SETTER OF THE WEEK
S Erika Birkeland, College of St. Scholastica

Erika Birkeland averaged 11.5 assists per set as St. Scholastica hit .533 as a team to capture the SUNY-Oneonta tournament title with a 4-0 record. Birkeland also chipped in 2.0 digs per set throughout four matches.
