ST. PAUL -- This week's UMAC Player of the Week award winners showed continued evidence of the depth of talent within the conference. Although none of the four recipients are new names to their sport, three of the four are first time player of the week award winners in 2011-2012. Congratulations to this week's athletes of the week.
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
G Jonah Dahlman, College of St. Scholastica
In a pair of wins last week, St. Scholastica's Jonah Dahlman averaged 21 points, seven assists and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 73 percent from the floor. Dahlman's career-high 32 points came up big against Minnesota Morris in a 77-64 victory for the Saints.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
F Emily Mehr, University of MInnesota Morris
Minnesota Morris' Emily Mehr averaged 20 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in three contests last week, shooting 47 percent from the field. In just 18 minutes against Northland College on Friday, Mehr scored 23 points, which included an 11-of-12 performance at the free throw line.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Taylor Gish, Northwestern College
Northwestern College's Taylor Gish continued to break his own school record in the 35 lbs. weight throw competition, a feat he accomplished five times in 2011. At the Warren Bowlus Open in Menomonie, Wis., Gish broke his own school record twice before finishing the event in fourth place with a final throw of 17.45 meters. Gish also participated in the shot put competition, where his throw of 14.07 meters broke his personal best mark by 17 inches.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maggie Bair, College of St. Scholastica
St. Scholastica's Maggie Bair won the 60-meter hurdles race with a time of 9.12 at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday. Bair also broke the Saints' program record in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 8.09.
