ST. PAUL -- Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Assistant Commissioner Regan Tekavec has accepted an assistant athletic director position at Concordia University-St. Paul, effective February 1. Tekevec was the league’s first-ever assistant commissioner in a two-year position made possible primarily through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority & Women’s Internship grant program.
At Concordia, Tekavec will serve as the school’s compliance coordinator and senior women’s administrator while advising the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC). “Regan has already been able to acquire a vast amount of college experience in her young career and I have no doubt that she will make a tremendous impact for our athletic department,” noted Concordia Athletic Director Tom Rubbelke.
“Taking this position with Concordia University is definitely bittersweet for me,” noted Tekavec. “Working in compliance at the institutional level has long been a goal of mine and I am excited for the opportunity, but I wouldn’t have been able to get there without my experience at the UMAC. I will truly miss the wonderful people and student-athletes that make up the conference.”
Before joining the UMAC, Tekavec was an assistant sports information director at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., her alma mater. A four-year volleyball student-athlete for the Vikings, Tekavec earned both her bachelors and masters degrees at Augustana. She has also worked for the NBA Development League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Sioux Empire Baseball and USA Volleyball in a career that has exposed her to collegiate, professional, Olympic and community sports administration.
During her tenure with the UMAC, Tekavec was actively involved in all aspects of the conference office including compliance and governance, championships, officiating development, public relations, marketing, sports information and fiscal management.
“Regan has significantly expanded the scope of operation for our conference office, enhanced the programming and services offered to our conference members, and will depart having made a tremendous impact in a relatively short period of time,” commented UMAC Commissioner Corey Borchardt. He continued, “In addition to her regular operational duties, Regan was instrumental in developing and leading the first-ever UMAC Women’s Symposium in the spring of 2011, an event which provided very positive feedback and was held again for the second consecutive year this past fall. Going forward, the Women’s Symposium will be just one of many examples of Regan’s positive influence on our conference that will have long-lasting effect.”
