NEW ULM, Minn. – Martin Luther College is proud to announce that Jeff Schone has been named the new head women’s soccer coach. Schone replaces former coach Jon Balge, who served five seasons as coach of the women’s program.

Schone has spent the past three seasons as the assistant under Balge for the women’s program, and has also coached at the youth level, helping two under-15 teams to the Minnesota state tournament. Prior to his time helping the soccer program, he served as head coach of the golf team at MLC for five seasons.

He also brings playing experience, having started for three seasons at Northwestern College (Watertown, Wis.) at fullback, where he played with Balge, as well as men’s soccer coach Paul Koelpin, before spending his final season as a student-assistant at Northwestern.

“Taking the reins of our women’s soccer program will prove to be quite a challenge,” Schone said, “but one that is certain to bring rewards. I am grateful for the opportunity to help our players work together and reach their individual and team goals.”

Schone also serves as Vice President for Student Life and Professor of Religion at MLC.
