Mankato, Minn. - Amidst the dressed ghouls and goblins on Halloween night, watch out for Vikings coming to your doorstep. But these Bethany Lutheran student-athletes don’t want your candy; they want what is in your cabinet.
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at BLC has put together an effort to collect perishable food items to be donated to ECHO Food Shelf. Each Bethany Lutheran team will go around wearing Viking Athletics attire asking for some of the most requested items such as cereal, pasta and pasta sauce, boxed main dishes, and personal care items.
The SAAC at Bethany Lutheran is a student-athlete run group that deals with concerns on campus, and puts together different volunteer efforts that the Viking Athletic teams can be a part of.
“We want to give back to the community, and thought this would just be a fun way to collect items and help out,” SAAC member Joelle Pipal said. “This is the first of hopefully many community service events we will participate in this school year.”
The teams will join the trick-or-treaters on Sunday traveling around Mankato and North Mankato neighborhoods from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
