MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica men’s tennis team won all six singles flights today on its way to capturing its third consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship.
The Saints finished with 26 points with Northwestern College finishing second with 15 points. Bethany Lutheran was third with 10 points. The title was the 10th overall for the program.
It was all singles championship matches today at the Baseline Tennis Center. At the No. 1 flight,
Dillon Sterle (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) won his second straight title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Freshman
Jacob Engelstad (
Fr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) won at the No. 2 flight with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph.
At the No. 3 flight,
Brendan Anderson (
So.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won 6-1, 6-4 to capture his first singles conference title. Freshman
Kevin Hilpert (
Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) was victorious at the No. 4 flight, 6-0, 6-3.
Tim Dean (
Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 flight and freshman
Brian Lindberg (
Fr.-Hermantown, Minn.) won 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 6 flight.
