ST. PAUL – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) released its softball all-conference awards on Monday, with the College of St. Scholastica leading the pack with five first team selections and seven overall.  Kristin Swartz, Kayla Jenkins, Jenn Falk, Theresa Tauer and Brynn Wollak, who all had a part in St. Scholastica’s flawless UMAC season at 21-0, all received first team all-conference accolades.  Second and third place Northland College and Northwestern College each had three honorees on the first team, while the University of Minnesota, Morris had two first team selections.

St. Scholastica won both the UMAC regular season and postseason tournament, claiming the conference title for the 12th time in program history and the 10th in 11 years.  St. Scholastica head coach Jen Walter was voted the 2009 UMAC Coach of the Year after leading her team to its first 30-win season since 2006.  As a team, St. Scholastica led the UMAC in batting, pitching and fielding.

Saints infielder Kristin Swartz earned UMAC Player of the Year honors after posting a .525 batting average and 32 hits in St. Scholastica’s 21 conference games.  The junior also tallied 24 runs batted in while leading the league in triples (five) and stolen bases (59).  In addition to her Player of the Year award, Swartz was named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team for a third straight year in 2009.
