LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – St. Scholastica women’s tennis freshman
Ploy Suthijindawong (Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) was defeated on Sunday in straight sets to finish as the national runner-up at the NCAA Division III National Tennis Singles Championships, co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and Gwinnett Sports Commission.
Lorne McManigle of Emory University (Ga.), the No. 5 seed, won the first set by a score of 6-2. However, unlike the previous two, three-set matches that Ploy was in where she would rally from dropping the first set, McManigle took control of the second set early to win the title 6-2, 6-1.
Even with the loss, Ploy had a great season and finished with a spring record of 23-2 in her freshman campaign. She becomes the first CSS player to earn All-American honors and holds the CSS single-season record with 27 victories on the year.
