ST. PAUL – 17 women’s basketball players from Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) institutions were named to the UMAC All-Conference First and Honorable Mention Teams on Tuesday, two days after Northland College claimed a season sweep, winning both the UMAC regular season and postseason tournament championships.

Northland was represented by two players on the all-conference list, as juniors Lindsey Hamm and Chelsea Lundgren earned first team honors.  Hamm was named the UMAC Player of the Year as the top all-conference vote-getter following a season in which the guard had Top 10 finishes in points per game, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, assists per game and steals per game.  Following last week’s UMAC finale, Hamm was named the conference tournament most valuable player.

Adding to Northland’s list of award recipients, LumberJills’ head coach Dan Roiger was chosen by his colleagues from around the UMAC as the Coach of the Year.

Katie DeWitt, a sophomore guard from Northwestern College, was selected as the league’s Newcomer of the Year following an effort that placed her second in the UMAC in points per game with 16.1.

Northland, the University of Minnesota, Morris, and Northwestern, the conference’s top three finishers in 2008-09, each had two players on the first team all-conference list.  Minnesota, Morris and Northwestern each had another player on the honorable mention team, while Martin Luther College added to its one first team member with two honorable mention players.

Bethany Lutheran College boasted two of the five players who were chosen to represent the UMAC’s All-Defensive Team.  Seniors Eva Voss and Lindsey Kahle were joined on the defensive squad by Martin Luther’s Lissa Babinec, Northwestern’s Kaelee Kendrick and Minnesota, Morris’ Jamie Rainey.
