ST. PAUL -- In the same way that last Saturday’s UMAC Men’s Soccer Postseason Tournament officially ended in a tie (the College of St. Scholastica claimed the tournament trophy after winning a shootout 8-7), both St. Scholastica and the University of Minnesota, Morris boasted seven all-conference accolades as the conference released its 2009 postseason awards on Tuesday.

After a 12-1-1 season, St. Scholastica had five individuals earn first team all-conference honors and another two were recognized as honorable mention winners. Minnesota, Morris, who claimed its first UMAC regular season championship with a 13-1 record, boasted four first team all-conference accolades and three more honorable mentions. Northland College and Presentation College both had three individuals on the first team list.

To extend Saturday’s tie even further, St. Scholastica and Minnesota, Morris shared the UMAC Player of the Year award as the Saints’ Toby Peter and the Cougars’ Patrick O’Connor received an equal number of votes. Peter, who won the Player of the Year trophy in 2007, scored five goals while assisting 12 others for 22 points in league play. O’Connor recorded eight goals and 14 assists in 14 UMAC contests for a total of 30 points.

Crown College head coach Josh Dunwoody was voted as the UMAC’s Coach of the Year by his colleagues after leading his team to a tie for third place in the conference standings. After posting 5-9 UMAC records the past two years, Dunwoody’s team went 7-6-1 in 2009.
