ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (Oct. 4, 2008) – Northwestern College won the first-ever Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women’s Golf Championship on Saturday, shooting an 841 in a two-day event at Alexandria Golf Club.  The UMAC has hosted a women’s finale in years past, but 2008 was the first year that four full teams participated in the tournament, making it an official conference championship.

Of the three women who shot under 200 in the two days, Northwestern boasted two of them in Kristina Siemens and Jamee Bohlen.  Siemens shot a 95-92-187, while Bohlen carded a 93-103-196 to help the Eagles beat the University of Minnesota, Morris by 40 strokes overall.  The Cougars’ Emma Schlosser was the other female to shoot sub-200, coming into the clubhouse on Saturday with a two-day score of 193.  Minnesota, Morris shot a team score of 881 overall.

Presentation College and Martin Luther College followed with team scores of 938 and 940.

Bethany Lutheran’s Abbie Lecy tied Siemens at 187, but won a one-hole playoff to earn medalist honors.  Lecy was joined at the tournament by teammate Kelsey Schlicker, who posted an even 200.  Lecy and Schlicker were the only Vikings to compete in the women’s event, so Bethany Lutheran did not qualify for the team trophy.
