Northland College’s Chelsea Lundgren was named the UMAC nominee for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year Award on Monday. Lundgren is a two-sport athlete for the LumberJills, playing in back-to-back seasons for Northland’s volleyball and women’s basketball teams.

Not one, but two teams from the UMAC will be participating in the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, as the University of Minnesota-Morris and Northland College received invitations to the Big Dance.

After both No. 1 seeds fell in the semifinal round of the UMAC Tournament on Thursday, Minnesota-Morris and Northwestern won their respective men's and women's championship games on Saturday.

The UMAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference First and Second Teams were about as diverse as one can ask for, as seven of the eight member-institutions were represented. St. Scholastica, Martin Luther, Northland, Northwestern and Minnesota-Morris all had players on the first team, which was part of the conference’s basketball postseason awards that were announced on Friday.

The Cougar women came into Saturday's Senior Day having earned a little relaxation the night before in routing Northwestern by 20 points and earning the outright number 1 seed in the UMAC.  After closing out the regular season in convincing fashion, defeating an overmatched Crown team, Minnesota-Morris officially marked their place as UMAC champions for the 2009-10 season.
